| Polly Podolsky’s work is varied and original—still lifes, landscapes, work that expresses a mood—but most of all she loves painting people.
"Whether I’m painting a live model or a faded face on a 1920’s snapshot,” she says, “there’s always a story behind the eyes.”
Polly began her formal training at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, her home town. She worked for more than a decade as a commercial artist, then followed her passion for beautiful things by starting an antiques business which she ran for several years.
Eventually, of course, the desire to create art took her back to her studies. She enrolled at the Crealde School of Arts, in Winter Park, Fl. studying portrait painting with Helen Hickey and attending numerous workshops with New York painter Gregg Kreutz, where she developed her passion for and deep understanding of the use of light and dramatic value contrast.
Polly has conducted painting workshops and portrait demonstrations in Orlando Florida and taught since 2002 at the Mt. Dora Center for the Arts. She has exhibited her art at major festivals, winning awards and recognition in shows including Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival and Disney’s Festival of the Masters. She was a charter member of Artworks Orlando Gallery and is currently being represented by Northlight Gallery in Kennebunkport Maine. Some of her commissioned and award winning artwork is owned by Rollins College, the Orange County (Florida) Court House as well as notables such as John Walsh, Rich DeVos and Bob Wesley. Her work is also in private collections in Washington D.C., Illinois, New York, New Jersey, Iowa, Texas, Virginia, California, Australia and Germany. Polly’s distinctive and vivid style has earned her a loyal following and many commissions.
She works exclusively in oil, her favorite medium, using a variety of underpainting and glazing techniques, and always pushing the light one more time.
She recently moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to reunite with the love of her life and to find new art worlds to conquer. . Major Awards: Ocala Arts Festival, Ocala Florida.
